Beatles Search Help

Basic Search

For most searches, our Basic Search Mode, which can be accessed from our home page and the "FIND" function on any page on the system, will let you find the Beatles information that you're looking for.

Just type in a few words corresponding to the topic you want to find out more about. For example, type in the words abbey road and you'll receive articles about the history of the album, the lastest news stories mentioning it, and discussions about it on the collectors forums.

If you get too many results, try adding more words to your search request, although just two or three words should usually give desireable search results.

Remember, upper and lower case letters don't count, but spelling does. So, if you're not getting any results, try checking your spelling.

Advanced Search

The Advanced Search options allow you to modify what and how the Beatles Search system searches, and how it displays the search results.

Search Type:

When you use the Match All Words search type (the system default) your results will only include only pages that include all words you typed. For example, if you type norman smith, only pages that have norman and smith anywhere on the page will be returned. But this also means that one page containing Norman Rossington and George Smith will also be returned, because your two words were included in those pages.

To return pages only where the words Norman and Smith appear together, use the Match Exact Phrase search type. This is the strictest selection and will find the least matches. Also please note you can access Match Exact Phrase type from any Basic Search prompt by enclosing your phrase in double quotes, for example, "norman smith".

If you're not really sure what to type to find what you're looking for, try the Match Any Words search type. In this mode, if you enter norman smith, your results might include pages with norman, but they might not have smith in them, or vice versa.

Sort Listings:

If you select Sort by Best Match (the system default), the system keeps track of how many times the pages in the search results matched your specified search words, and puts the pages with the best matches at the top. This selection is better if you don't know what to expect in the search results.

If you select Sort Alphabetically, the system ignores the best match info and displays your search results in alphabetical order. Select this mode if you're looking for a specific page and/or pages and identifying the titles of the pages is more important.

Include Sites:

The Beatles Search system combines the content of several sites to make it easier to find the Beatles information your looking for all in one place.

The Internet Beatles Album (www.beatlesagain.com) includes many historical Beatles articles and information about Beatles recordings.

Beatles News (www.beatlesnews.com) includes the latest Beatles news articles and info from the Beatles News blog.

Beatles Collecting (www.beatlescollecting.com) includes Beatles for sale and wanted classified ads, and informational posts on our popular Beatles collecting forums on topics like Beatles records, videos and memorabilia.

Fixing A Hole (www.fixingahole.org) features essays about how the Beatles changed the world and continue to make the world a better place everyday through their fans.

You may select including content from any of our sites in any combination by using the Include Sites options. You might want to only search for news stories, for example. The system default is all sites are included.
